Update on Xiao Bai Cai

Asparagus

My asparagus has finally started growing. I had planted the seeds many weeks ago and thought that they can't survive but look at it now. Unmistakably asparagus.

Brinjal

If you have not seen a real Brinjal plant before, here it is.

Xiao Bai Cai

Look how big my Xiao Bai Cai has grown. That's one of the main reason why they are one of the main crops in Asia. 

CSI gardening

I think i might have solved the mystery of my unknown plants. I went to the nursery yesterday and took a picture of some of the suspects. The clue is in the leaves. 

I think the leaves are the leaves of a sunflower.

Asparagus

I have just sowed some Asparagus seeds today and I couldn't wait to see the plant grows. Why Asparagus? Well, because my wife loves Asparagus. What best way to show affections than planting and feeding my love with my tender loving care. That's killing 2 birds with one stone.

 If you have not seen any Asparagus plant before, this is how it looks like. Found this at the Hortpark. The stem will look familiar and that's where we usually eat them. This actually quite a beautiful plant.

Mosquito defense strategy

I have just bought 2 Mosquito plants because my son just got bitten 8 times by a mosquito. 

Yes, we managed to kill the mosquito using the mosquito zapper. The red LED light means the zapper is turned on and ready to zap any mosquito that comes along the way. This device even though ugly is really very useful. I find that the Singapore mosquito are some special elite type that is really hard to squash. Their reflexes are great and their camouflage skills are excellent. They know where to fly so that their silhouette do not standout. They always make sure they fly where the background is dark colour so it is very difficult to find them. If they can't be found, they can't be killed. Thanks to the zapper, I have managed to kill quite a number of ellite commando mosquitos.  It has such a big surface area and it is a sure kill especially if you are good in racket games. Once zapped, there's an unmistakably sound indicating they are 'fried'. The feeling is great.  

As an added precaution, I bought 2 mosquito plants to be placed at both the entrances of my balcony. Any mosquito that wants to comes in has to get through my first level of defense. I will update soon to see if this plant is really effective. If you wonder why it repels mosquito, you just need to smell the leaves and you will immediate know why. I believed some of the insect repellent makers extract the chemicals from the leaves for this same purpose.  

What plants are these?

Anyone has any idea what plants are these? If you do, please tell me or i will have to wait till they bloom. What happened is that I didn't label them when i planted the seeds. The hint is it is either Sunflower, lemon balm, mint or Marigold. Can't be mint as it doesn't appear like one.

Day 4

This is only day 4 after i sow the seeds for Xiao Bai Cai and look how fast they have grown?

My Kangkong

Kangkong is one of the easiest veggie to grow. They grow pretty fast and makes a good veggie crop for your dining table. I likely won't be growing this on a bigger scale unlike my Xiao Bai Cai as my family is no fan of Kangkong. They say will get rheumatism and some other aliments.

This blog may bore the hell out of someone but it is one of my hobby. The feeling of seeing your plant germinate and grow is really satisfying. Gardening is actually quite therapeutic.  

This is my beautiful Xiao Bai Cai. This is just a start to see if the Xiao Bai Cai grows well here (here i mean in my house). 

Now that i know that it is successful, the next part of my plan is to grow them on a bigger scale.

It is amazing how fast they grow. The seeds were only sow 2 days ago and now you can see it sprouting.  Eventually it will grow into many crops of Xiao Bai Cai. Well, that's the plan : )
